DIY Fixed-Wing UAV Project for Mapping: Low-Budget Cessna Build
I undertook a low-cost project to build a fixed-wing UAV inspired by the iconic Cessna design, aimed at aerial mapping. The focus was on affordability and functionality, so I used lightweight materials like foam board, balsa wood, and carbon fiber rods for the airframe. A brushless motor, an electronic speed controller (ESC), and LiPo batteries powered the drone, while inexpensive servos and a basic flight controller ensured smooth operation.
With basic tools, online resources, and readily available components, I successfully built a reliable UAV capable of capturing high-resolution aerial maps, all on a budget.
